SAMSUNG NX3000 CONCLUSION

When I got this camera for review, my first thought was: Oh, another one of these. It’s not that I don’t like Samsung, but they produce odd performing cameras for some time now. NX3000 is not bad image maker; it has high quality APS-C sensor as good as any similar Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Panasonic, but the problem is in the way the camera is built and though out. It is made primarily for users without previous experience with “real” cameras. There is a whole list of things I disliked about NX3000 and when you add them up there is a real need to ask myself: Why would I want to buy it? Slippery plastic, limited customization options (you need to enter main menu or scroll through the quick menu for pretty much everything), average battery life, average kit lens, average video, average LCD resolution, truly irritating reverse image playback and micro SD card are not the stuff I am prepared to use on a daily basis. It’s a shame, because if Samsung got somebody to sort all of this out, it could have a chance to become a player in the camera market.

As it is, NX3000 is still a good choice for amateurs who will not fiddle with options much and probably never buy another lens… but then again, you can use Sony, Olympus or Panasonic equally well in Auto mode and they offer much more in terms of usability than Samsung. Finally, if you care only for image quality and find Samsung NX3000 attractive, go for it.

PRO:

  • Excellent sensor and image quality
  • Easy to use
  • Articulated LCD

  • Slippery plastic on the grip
  • Limited customization options
  • Average kit lens
  • Micro SD card
  • Average video performance
  • Average LCD resolution
  • Battery is charged inside the camera
  • Average battery life
