Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 (DMC-ZS40) review

Previous pageNext page

VIDEO RECORDING

Video recording is available in AVCHD or MP4 file formats. Maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080 at 60p (60 frames per second) what is great for action videos (sport, children, pets…). Video quality is quite good, with a lot of details and realistic colors. Only thing that spoils it is auto focus on large zoom settings – it needs 4-8 seconds to focus on maximum zoom even in daylight (check samples below).

PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-TZ60 REVIEW CONCLUSION

Panasonic DMC-ZS40 is basically a very capable camera. Image quality is better than some competitors (Olympus SH-1), and beside automatic and scene modes has all the manual controls. LCD is a joy to use and the camera has overall feel of well thought out product. It’s got some bad sides (poor EVF and proprietary USB connector) bad only thing that is actually bad is the lens. It is far from sharp at maximum zoom and has problems with corners and chromatic aberrations. It is easily possible to make better lens, just look at my Olympus SH-1 review. TZ60 still gets my overall recommendations, but avoid it if you intend to use maximum optical zoom regularly.

PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-TZ60 PROS:

  • Image quality
  • Build quality
  • GPS and Wi-Fi built-in
  • Good battery life

  • LCD viewing quality
  • RAW file format

PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-TZ60 CONS:

  • Lens sharpness in corners and on high zoom
  • Lens chromatic aberrations
  • Non-standard USB connector
  • Battery is charged inside camera
