Olympus Tough TG-3 review

Previous pageNext page

Altogether, Olympus TG-3 deserves my recommendations. The camera has very few weak points, especially at the current retail price ($300 on Amazon). Image quality is not perfect (that darn noise reduction!) but this is typical of small image sensors. Still, it is good enough for typical usage and will be visible only when heavily cropped so for practical usage is not relevant to most potential buyers. Video quality is also excellent and the camera is packed with features and has one of the best macro modes available. When you combine all said above with the ability to go underwater and withstand abuse this might be one of the best waterproof cameras on the market.

  • Build quality
  • Reasonably good image quality
  • LCD viewing angles
  • GPS and WiFI built-in
  • Can attach fisheye, wide and teleconverter
  • External flash remote commander mode
  • Slow motion video

  • Noise reduction still visible even at low ISO
  • USB connector not of the standard kind

All straight out of camera:

  ISO 100, F/8, 1/160

ISO 100, F/4.9, 1/500

ISO 800, F/2, 1/8

ISO 1600, F/4.7, 1/13

ISO 100, F/2.8, 1/250

ISO 100, F/2.8, 1/200

ISO 100, F/8, 1/250

ISO 100, F/6.3, 1/500

ISO 1000, F/2.3, 1/30

ISO 100, F/8, 1/320
