NIKON AW120 VIDEO RECORDING
AW120 can record full HD video at 30p or 60i frames per second. 30p is also available as are lower resolutions at 1280 x 720 and 640 x 480. There is an option to record slow motion videos at 4x or 8x as fast as normal but these are available only at really low resolutions.
Video quality is surprisingly good, much better than photo quality. Videos are fluid and especially good when you use optical zoom; zoom action is very smooth and there is no rolling shutter effect. Image stabilization is splendid and produces really steady videos when hand-held. Built-in stereo microphone also does a very good job. Take a look at some movie samples below and you will see what I’m talking about.
NIKON AW120 REVIEW CONCLUSION
Nikon AW120 turned out to be a decent performer. I especially liked high video quality and motion sensor. The camera is easy to use but if you intend taking control over aperture or shutter speed find something else since this camera is pure “point and shoot”. There are some downsides regarding image quality due to noise reduction and lens performance in corners on wide angle, but there is no waterproof compact that is perfect. If you do not need waterproof camera, there are much better options at the similar price (Nikon P340), but as far as waterproof cameras go AW120 is a good choice.
NIKON AW120 PROS:
- Build quality
- Video recording quality
- Slow motion video
- Waterproof up to 18m
- Wi-Fi and GPS built-in
- Motion sensor
NIKON AW120 CONS:
- Corner sharpness on wide angle
- Noise reduction is too aggressive
