Nikon Coolpix A review

Previous pageNext page

CONCLUSION

Image quality wise, Coolpix A is flawless. The problem is in several details and the price. Battery life is only around 200 shots, there is no viewfinder and auto focus and general response is quite sluggish. Coolpix A costs $1100 at the time of my review, almost as much as D7100 body ($1150) which offers significantly better AF and ergonomics. Also, there is a choice of quite a lot of mirrorless cameras not much bigger than Coolpix A that offers similar image quality but better AF and the ability to change lenses (and all for the same or lower price). If it were priced at $600 or $700 I would easily recommend it, but at current pricing must really want this camera in order to pay for it.

PRO

  • Image quality at both high and low ISO
  • Build quality
  • Twin control dials and customizable buttons
  • Built-in flash + hot-shoe
  • Excellent lens

CONS

  • Slow AF
  • Overall slow operation (compared to DSLR)
  • Battery life
  • No viewfinder
  • Price

  1. You’re the first reviewer of this camera to claim that the body is plastic rather than predominantly metal.

    • Tnx for pointing the error out… I was writing P330 review at the same time and probably got mixed what goes into which review. :)
