Canon EOS 1200D (Rebel T5) review

Previous pageNext page

All together, Canon Rebel T5 is an excellent camera. Don’t be mistaken, it is clear this is an entry level camera: body materials and lack of advanced features like microphone input, slow burst rate or spot metering will not appeal to some buyers, but as soon as you start shooting with it, it becomes clear why you might want it. Image quality is on a high level, especially if you post process your images and the camera has a very fast response. You will be able to turn it on, focus and take a shot in under a second, something no mirrorless can top out. When you add a 500+ shots battery life it is clear why you would want to buy a DSLR, even a low specked one like this over a mirrorless or an advanced compact.

At the same time I reviewed Rebel T5, Canon gave me the Powershot G1X mark II (review coming soon), and when switching to Rebel after using G1X for a few hours I felt like a burden was lifted off my back. DSLR’s are still better photographic tools in terms of responsiveness, speed and simplicity and this is why you would want one in your hands. If you think you might need more features, then there is Rebel T5i (700D) or even 70D, but for amateur use,1200D is more than enough.
